In an Electromagnetic Brake, compression springs will engage a plate to the friction element when power is cut from the coil.  This is ideal for emergency braking during a power outage.  Some equipment may require safety brakes if mechanisms are held aloft by use of active motors.  Advantages of the Miki lineup include: space saving & low profile designs, quiet brake operation, high holding torque, and availability of a manual unlocking lever.  Different types are available depending on function: Braking, Holding, or both braking & holding.

BWX model

BXW model:
The BXW brake is used for braking, holding, and braking & holding. There are three sub-models available under the BXW line: L-Type (for braking), H-Type (for braking and holding), and S-Type (for holding only).

This brake will function at a full torque rating right out of the box; no ‘running in’ is required to season the abrasive element. To combat noise, a strategically placed spring reduces the clatter sound produced by small vibrations during high speed rotation.

BXL model

BXL model:
The BXL is a compact model used exclusively for braking. The braking element is designed to have a long service life with high resistance to wear. Upon braking, torque fluctuation is minimal – even when stopped from maximum RPM. Excessive noise during braking is reduced by use of a rotor spring.

BXH model

BXH model:
The BXH is designed primarily for emergency braking and holding. Dimensionally, it is the same as the BXL. However, it has double the operating torque to serve its emergency braking purpose. This brake will function at full torque rating right out of the box; no ‘running in’ is required to season the abrasive element.

BXH model

BXR-LE model:
This spring-actuated, power-off engaged type brake combines a custom power controller to overcome compression spring force using 24VDC for a split second, and then stepping down power consumption to 7VDC.  This is ideal when exploring overall energy cost savings, while mitigating heat buildup in the stator.   The BXR-LE (Low-Energy) also features a compact, flat design, with a 3-hole bolt circle for mounting.  Shaft connection may be achieved by using either a press fit rotor hub key, or a set-screw type rotor hub key.

BXR model

BXR model:
The BXR safety brake can serve as an emergency brake, as-well as a holding brake. This unique, low profile design is 2/3 the thickness of other brakes that Miki offers. Aside from saving space, weight is also dramatically reduced. Less weight translates into less wear of the rotor during operation. It may be installed on a servo- motor without inhibiting responsiveness. To top off all these features, the energy saving design reduces the temperature of the coil.

457 model:
The 457 model is compact, and serves the purpose of braking only. Its braking element is designed to have a long service life with high resistance to wear. The external stator system reduces heat accumulation on the coil.

458 model:
The 458 model is designed for high-torque braking and holding. The design incorporates a special armature that reduces the high frequency friction sound during braking.  Braking torque may be adjusted by turning the torque ring.  The double brake construction ensures long service life.  Both the lever and cover reduce dust accumulation.
